Romans 9:30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; NIV

When the Bible speaks of righteousness it really means righteousness! Complete and absolute sinlessness in the sight of God. That begs the question- who has God ever seen that is absolutely sinless? The answer is simple and solo: Jesus. Only Jesus Christ is the absolutely sinless one. There is no one in second place; not Mary or Joseph or any of the “saints” throughout the ages. Just Jesus.

Yet here the Bible here says that we “have obtained a righteousness by faith” Let me ask you this question; what is more important, to be absolutely righteous (as only Christ can be) or to obtain the same level of righteousness? It’s quite obvious that we already fall short of Door # 1.  Now, I hope I don’t confuse things, but here really is no Door #2 – at least, not one that leads to righteousness.  Jesus is the only Door to the Father. He is the only source of true righteousness.

John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved… (NKJV)

So here it is – When you go through the Door of Jesus Christ (the ONLY righteous one) you obtain his righteousness. Which is better? They are the same! We share in his righteousness!

2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  (NIV)

No wonder we have confidence that when we die we are going to heaven. God has prepared us for heaven by giving us the righteousness to live there…his righteousness!
